“I was inspired to pursue architecture because it was a creative discipline but it created things that had to exist in the physical world. Unlike a piece of art, it has to have some utility and some function. It exists as something that people get to experience.”

Christopher Haack, Job Captain at Studio E Architects, has been working from home throughout the pandemic due to work from home procedures in effect at Studio E Architects. As a Job Captain, Chris deals with all of the architectural documents from start to finish. One of the major changes that came with Covid-19 was what the documents were created as. He says, “Prior to this you had to actually bring in printed out, 30” by 42” sets.” Chris says this has made it easier to get forms to the city. This is one example of how the process was pushed into the 21st century, as mentioned by Chris.

In the future, Chris says there may be more workers in the tech sector working jobs in other cities. He mentions that, in the tech sector, most jobs are able to be done completely remotely. This eliminates the need to live in a city to work in that city. Another thing he touches on is the fact that there are simple tasks that can be automated to make the process more efficient and Chris hopes that Covid-19 will be the catalyst for those improvements.
